On October 16th, it seemed as if someone upstairs had a heavy hand on the dimmer switch, a day that favored those who prefer their light on the softer side. The morning kicked off with a lazy drift, with the surface wind averaging a paltry 1.7 mph, hardly enough to ruffle a feather, let alone stir any sort of drama in the cloud theater. The cloud cover started out at a modest 49.3%, but like an ambitious understudy, it gradually took over the stage. By afternoon, the cloud cover had swelled to a formidable 93.5%, and the wind, perhaps inspired, picked up its pace to an average of 2.8 mph.
It wasn't until the evening, though, that the wind really found its groove, clocking an average of 3.2 mph and pushing the cloud cover to a full house--100%, baby. It was as if the sky had pulled the blanket over its head, deciding to call it a day. The wind direction pulled a couple of fast ones too, changing rapidly twice, and putting on a bit of a swirl show that one might call "atmospheric interpretive dance". But, like a child growing tired of a new toy, the night seemed to lose interest in its cloudy plaything. As the wind settled down to a more familiar 1.8 mph, the cloud cover dwindled to 25.6%, leaving the stage mostly clear for the moon's nocturnal performance. And despite the day's theatrics, not a single drop of rain was spotted on October 16th - the clouds were all talk and no action.
